Every template in the gallery can be recoloured, refonted and rearranged. What you cannot easily change is what the template is built to lead with — and that is the thing to judge it on.
Read the first screen
Look at what fills the screen before anyone scrolls. Some templates open with a product grid, some with a booking form, some with a large photograph and a single sentence. That choice decides what your visitors do first:
- Product-led layouts suit retail, food and anything with a catalogue people browse.
- Service-led layouts suit salons, clinics, trades and consultants — the visitor needs to see a service list and a way to book.
- Story-led layouts suit brands where trust comes first: interior design, photography, coaching, law.
Count how much content it needs
A template with six feature blocks, a team section and a testimonial carousel needs enough real content to fill them. If you have three products and no photos of your team, that template will look unfinished for months. Choose one you can fill completely today; move to a richer one when you have more to say.
Check it on a phone first
Most of your visitors will arrive on a phone, often on a slow connection. Open the template preview on your own phone before deciding. Is the call to action visible without scrolling? Is the price readable? Does the menu open easily with a thumb? A layout that looks impressive on a laptop and cramped on a phone is the wrong choice, however good the desktop version is.
Plan for the second product line
Businesses grow sideways: the baker starts doing cakes for events, the barber starts selling grooming products. Ask whether the template has an obvious place to put a second line of business — an extra section, a second navigation item, a bookings tab alongside the shop. Templates that only do one job cleanly are the ones people rebuild a year later.
Then make it yours
Once the structure is right, the personality is quick: two brand colours, one font pairing, consistent photography and your logo. Restraint reads as professional — pick one accent colour and use it only for the things you want clicked.
